LOOKING BACK AT ROUND 2
Compared to Round 1 of our little tournament, the competition in our last round of 32 went pretty much as you might expect...except for the Cinderella Story of the tournament...SANDI PATTY!
In the Eastern Region, Chris Tomlin and Carman both took care of business and find themselves in a head-to-head matchup in the Sweet 16. We saw two lower seeds advance, with Keith Green and The Gaithers falling by the wayside. However, considering each of these two artists belong to a generation that might not be online as much as others, it's a bit understandable.
The Southern Region saw a LOT of action, a couple of overtime thrillers, but in the end, only one upset as Sandi Patty took down The David Crowder Band. (It can't be overstated how many Sandi Patty fans voted!) While Amy Grant stood the test, the Rend Collective almost took down the Christian pop star. And while Steven Curtis Chapman and Third Day pushed ahead, it wasn't without significant energy expended from MxPx and Caedmon's Call.
Up North, the region of the frozen tundra saw a giant fall: Rich Mullins. Jesus Culture quickly put him to bed to advance to the next round, while Switchfoot took care of Aaron Keyes. The rest of the region went as you'd think it would, with both Matt Redman and Michael W. Smith dancing into the Sweet 16.
Lastly, the Western Region was the only one that saw all 4 of the top seeds make it through the first two rounds. DC Talk, Jars of Clay and Lecrae easily made it through. And while Hillsong United will sing another day, Audio Adrenaline was this close to pulling off the massive upset (the ball rimmed out as time expired).
So where does this leave us?
Well...it leaves us with a lot of artist we might expect to be in the Sweet 16...along with one amazing Cinderella Story in Sandi Patty. But will she keep dancing and make it to the Elite 8? What upsets await us?
There's only one way to find out: VOTE.
